Mahratna PSU Power Grid has successfully commissioned a major 3,500 MW transmission line project for solar energy zones in Andhra Pradesh
Mahratna PSU Power Grid Corporation of India Limited has achieved a significant milestone in the clean energy infrastructure sector. The state-owned company has fully operationalized a major transmission network aimed at delivering clean power across South India. The project became fully functional on June 24, 2026.
This infrastructure project was designed to evacuate power from key green energy hubs in Andhra Pradesh. The entire transmission scheme has a total capacity of 3,500 MW, connecting large regional renewable energy generation plants directly to the national power grid.
The transmission system distributes its total output across two major geographical areas. The larger segment handles 2,500 MW of power from the solar energy zone located in Anantapur, while the remaining 1,000 MW capacity serves the solar hub located in Kurnool.
Formal confirmation of commercial operations followed shortly after the hardware was commissioned. The company received the official notification for commercial operations on June 25, 2026. This electronic confirmation officially marked the successful deployment of these large-scale electrical assets.
Prior to completion, the company underwent internal restructuring during the development phase. Initially, the project was managed by a wholly owned subsidiary named ‘Powergrid Anantapur Kurnool Transmission Limited.’ However, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs issued an order on January 27, 2026, to reorganize the corporate structure.
Following this government directive, the initial subsidiary was officially merged into another unit. The asset was formally merged with ‘Powergrid Khavda II-C Transmission Limited’ on March 1, 2026. This administrative integration brought the transmission project under a unified management structure just prior to the final physical grid testing.
The state-owned company handled the requisite stock exchange formalities immediately after the lines became operational. The corporate disclosures fully complied with Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015, which mandates the timely public announcement of significant business milestones.
This operational launch marks a major leap forward for the regional power sector. By establishing a high-capacity energy corridor, the network alleviates bottlenecks in local power distribution. It ensures that the vast quantities of green energy generated by rural solar farms do not go to waste.
The project supports the broader national strategy to reduce carbon emissions; the supply of 3,500 MW of clean power diminishes the country’s reliance on coal-fired power plants. This new capacity assists Andhra Pradesh in achieving its ambitious, long-term ‘green’ objectives.
