Union Budget 2025 Highlights: Middle-Class-Friendly Budget to Boost Consumption, No Income Tax on Earnings Up to ₹12 Lakh in New Tax Regime

Income tax slabs for FY 2025-26

  • ₹0-4 lakh: Zero tax
  • ₹4 lakh-8 lakh: 5% tax
  • ₹8 lakh-12 lakh: 10% tax
  • ₹12 lakh-16 lakh: 15% tax
  • ₹16 lakh-20 lakh: 20% tax
  • ₹20 lakh-24 lakh: 25% tax
  • ₹24 lakh and above: 30% tax

  • Focus on poverty, youth and women: Major initiatives to address underemployment in agriculture and upliftment of vulnerable groups.
  • Support for farmers: Launch of National Mission on High Yield Seeds will benefit 1.7 crore farmers.

  • Atal Tinkering Labs: 50,000 labs to be set up in government schools in the next 5 years.

  • Tax structure: Digitisation of tax systems and reduced compliance burden for small charitable trusts.
  • Startups: Incorporation benefits extended for five years; capital gains limit raised to ₹12.7 lakh.
  • Income tax changes: Income up to ₹18 lakh will get a tax benefit of ₹70,000, and the maximum 30% tax rate will now be ₹24 lakh, as against ₹15 lakh earlier.
